Hey CI Community! Through The Magic Of DevOps, If The Foto Dump Breaks You Can Fix It!

FIX THE FUQING FOTO DUMP!

FixTheFotoDump.jpg

This calls an API. The API triggers a DevOps pipeline. The pipeline connects to the server via SSH and then unmounts and mounts the Foto Dump storage.

This is a joke right??

No other site I can think of has issues with photos - let alone requesting users to fix it.

Well, it’s all a trade off. shlomo came up with a clever way to pull the photos from blob storage without changing the CI code. Unfortunately the component he used loses connectivity to the blob storage on occasion. This new tool allows it to be easily fixed. The alternative would be a pretty large effort to rewrite the Foto Dump to interact directly with the blob storage.

This is practical IT. Get used to it. Professionals are running this place now. We’ve got to keep the CapEx down.

Dude you cold just host images on a free dropbox account
https://www.codecademy.com/articles/hos … on-dropbox

No. We host on MS Blob. Then a series of 23 scripts process an re-process the images. The images and then re-uploaded, re-downloaded and re-processed. Images are then sent to a datawaaaare house where they are then re-processed, analyzed and accessed via custom scripts that are too complicated to explain.

Part of my interest in hosting CI - and paying the corresponding bill - is to have a practical use case for hands on learning with Azure. That’s why everything is done that way.

Hmmm.  Hopefully there are some safeguards in place so this cannot be used to mount a DoS attack?

Why not just have the remount procedure occur on a schedule?

why not just put them all on disk like I did?  You guiz are overcomplicating it like true trevs

Being in possession of content or leaving that open to the influence of pranksters and the demonstrably ill-willed isn't wise.

Of course there are.

Because it seems to happen randomly when it (guessing here) loses network connectivity. So unless the schedule was very frequent then it wouldn’t help prevent an outage.

Also:

Part of my interest in hosting CI - and paying the corresponding bill - is to have a practical use case for hands on learning with Azure. This solution allowed me to experiment with quite a few aspects of Azure.

Two reasons:

1) blob storage is cheaper by a large margin

2) Part of my interest in hosting CI - and paying the corresponding bill - is to have a practical use case for hands on learning with Azure. That’s why everything is done that way.

Well,"Devops" a 3hour timer with a azuze bot to push the button based on traffic flow and calls to the image services.

So you want the Foto Dump to be down for up to 3 hours?

Well it's easy to check if the file system is valid once a minute, and run the script if stat fails. It's also easy to convert the dump to use blob storage the "right" way.

But your solution is clever.

This is why you set up something called a test environment

We'll just test in the live environment and assume everything went perfectly well. Software bugs almost never happen.

For mission critical/productive environment, sure. For this shythoal, we'll do it live!

shlomo is learning DevOps.

We have a test environment now. Though, it's all on the same machine, so something at the hardware level would impact both environments.

Dude. I know more about enterprise IT in my tiny left nut than you could possibly ever learn.

Apparently, you haven't learned enough about Azure to actually be able to store a file and load it without things randomly hanging.

Probably the most basic thing anyone could ever do.
