Re: Fuq Barr! Go Apple! DOJ Demands Apple unlock phone of Pensacola gunman.

Apple on Monday said the company had been working with the government.

“We have the greatest respect for law enforcement and have always worked cooperatively to help in their investigations," Apple said in a statement. "When the FBI requested information from us relating to this case a month ago, we gave them all of the data in our possession and we will continue to support them with the data we have available.”

A law enforcement official said there's an additional problem with one of the iPhones thought to belong to Alshamrani, who was killed by a deputy during the attack: He apparently fired a round into the phone, further complicating efforts to unlock it.

If Apple's system is designed properly, then there isn't anything to be done.

Fire up the GPUs.

That is what I recall from the San Bernardino shooting - the pigs demanded Apple do something they couldn’t do - unlock the phone.

My understanding of the last time, and I will start with a disclaimer that I don't have an iPhone, and don't understand how they work.

Apple software disables the unlock feature after a certain number of unsuccessful attempts. The FBI wanted to bypass this check so they could effectively try a large number of passwords.

This whole discussion leads me to a question.

I remember that Blackberry wasn't allowed in some countries until it provided decryption keys. BB eventually gave in.

Apple also sells products in Saudi Arabia, and China, and other countries that have demanded access. How did they get around the Blackberry issue?

I don’t think Apple caved,  but I don’t know for sure.

Brian thinks mass murderers deserve "freedom and privacy" cornlol

What if it was a white guy who shot up an MS sufferers meeting?  Would you be on Apple's side then?

Accused mass murderers absolutely deserve full privacy protections.

Why do you hate the 4th and 5th amendments?

You don't know anything about computers. Apple can just send a one-off update that only this cell phone gets that gets rid of the login.

the leftists think a declared and known terrorist deserves total privacy, but not a president they don't like.

Re: Fuq Barr! Go Apple! DOJ Demands Apple unlock phone of Pensacola gunman.

All apple can do is instruct them on booting the thing form a trusted device. The security chip is hardware level 256 bit encryption. Maybe a rainbow table can bust in?

Or we can accept that phones and computers are essentially extensions of our own minds and have them declared off limits when clear efforts to keep the contents private have been made.

Or disallow the sale of devices with the ability to be encrypted with out disclosing backdoors/governmental access.

The government has no inherent right to access the augmented memory/thinking of a person.

The president takes and oath that negates his personal freedoms for the privilege of serving, and all of his official communications are made using government property.

Whatever he has on a personal phone or computer should be privately his IF he has taken reasonable steps to assure privacy.
