Welcome to being a newly established adult in 1994 visiting Barnes and nobles with your first paycheck burning a hole in your pocket.

I know, right?

I did recently buy a hardcover book that SamplesBoi suggested. But before that it had probably been 10 years.

That was a trade paperback book (i.e. larger than a paperback) but it does not actually have a hard cover.

For that I would recommend The Art of Electronics.  thumbup

Hmmmmm. Maybe it is paperback. I haven't had a chance to get too far in it with so much other stuff going on.

Suggestion:  Skip the big theoretical chapter up front and go into the chapters after that about sensors, microcontrollers, programmable logic, etc.  Those will give you the big picture of what you can do.  The theory is the glue that will hold all those parts together.  Do it last.
