These days you have to know more about web infrastructure than the actual website code

Gone are the days of website design being a creative endeavor, now you have to worry about disaster recovery, load balancing, know source control platforms from 5 different vendors backwards and forwards, and be certified with all the cloud vendors, and be up to date on 50 javascript frameworks, web servers, cloud containers, application containers, kubernetes, micro services, proxying, caches, and have general knowledge of which hardware is best suited for your application, including storage devices, rack dimensions and datacenters before you're allowed to put up a static website with 3 words of text cry

That's all back end.

The only thing holding back web "design" are is limitations of the medium.

Nobody lets you do front end until you've proven yourself on the back end.

You also need to be well versed in daily stand-ups and agile scrums. You need to be able to tell me what you did yesterday, what you're going to do today, and what you plan to accomplish tomorrow.

If you're not able to adapt to our agile scrum environment, we have rooms downstairs where we can work with you to make you a better team player through attitude adjustment sessions.

There are dedicated roles for FEDs out there. It’s a specialization. Quite different from full stack or back end guys.

We will discuss these issues during grooming.

That was true of traditional print as well, you had to understand the process and then design to it's limitations.

Not being able to place text objects freely or work with layers. Just forget it. lol It's drop everything in a bucket, and there are 3 different buckets.

Re: These days you have to know more about web infrastructure than the actual website code

OP is upset that he can't draw on a screen with crayons and make a 6 figure salary.

Waaah, I have to know how my website will function in case there's a hardware failure
Waaah, I have to know how my website will function in case there's a networking failure
Waaah, I have to know how my website will function when it's hosted on shared resources
Waaah, I have to know if the languages I build my website with are secure and will be supported in the future
Waaah, I have to talk to other people  and coordinate my activities with them
Waaah, I have to be accountable for how I spend my time while getting paid

Dude, welcome to being a responsible IT pro. IF you don't like it, go bag groceries.

Not very well.

wrote:

The website will be fine, but nobody will be able to reach it.

wrote:

Just fine, if you correctly provisioned enough of the required resources (assuming cloud).

So no cutting-edge stuff then. We're in agreement.

Nah, in reality you're better off specializing or you will always get thrown the worst of it. If you're worrying about the net work, back end or your hardware, how are you doing anything creative? lol
