Rick Rubin? I dunno.

Eno? I'm not sure he's really that successful monetarily, is he?

Maybe Ted Nugent, or Some of the old Jazz guys.

I don't really follow producers. Butch Vig?

Contrary to your notion, rap is pretty low budget stuff.

Popular Rap artists do give the impression of wealth. But the truly wealthy flaunt it with style or not at all.

Jay-Z is worth hundreds of millions.  Aside from that, great points.  Idiot.

Dre is worth $120mm.  Eminem and 50-Cent are worth $110mm.  Lil Wayne is worth $85mm.  How's that compare to your bank roll?

Re: Based n a mix of both monetary and artistic success , who would you say the greatest record producer is

Hard to tell, producers keep how much they make pretty close to the vest. Rick Rubin is up there, Roy Thomas Baker, Gordy Berry, Dr. Dre, Sam Phillips, Phil Spector, Eddie Kramer, Bob Rock, etc.

If I had to choose on both criteria, I'd say Rick Rubin.

They actually do have money, not as much as they'd like everyone to think, but the smartest thing rap producers and artists did was start their own labels, so they get more of the money. They also get bigger advances, as well. The artists are doing okay, but the top rap guys, like Dre and Eminem, were smart, and run their own labels, and that's where the money is.

That's true. Dre is doing well I'm sure. Some of those others though, typical hollywood lifestyle, more going out than coming in, when the ride stops, they'll be back where they started. Like Mike Tyson.

Dre and Eminem and 50-Cent all worked the system pretty hard.  Dre was signed to Iovine.  He started a label under Jimmy and signed Eminem.  Then Eminem started a label under Dre and signed 50.  Then 50 started a label under Em and signed G-Unit.  So any time 50 releases an album, Dre and Em get a piece.
